Fee Structure
Transparent compensation models
Before you instruct us, we clarify the scope of work, the fee arrangement and the foreseeable cost risks. If the requirements change during the matter, we discuss the implications for the work involved and the fees.
Fees depend on the scope, complexity and course of the matter. A fixed fee may be appropriate for clearly defined services; hourly fees may be agreed for work whose scope is not yet clear or which involves complex issues. The statutory requirements of the German Lawyers’ Remuneration Act (RVG) also apply.
How we approach fees
Transparent from the start
Scope, fee model, and expected cost drivers are addressed at the beginning of the matter wherever possible.
Tailored to the mandate
The right structure depends on complexity, urgency, predictability, and the commercial objective of the case.
Commercially minded
Our aim is not only legal quality, but a fee structure that remains proportionate and workable in practice.
Our fee models
Statutory fees (RVG)
In certain matters, remuneration is governed by the German Lawyers' Remuneration Act (RVG). This can be relevant where the law prescribes the fee basis or where statutory billing is the appropriate framework for the specific assignment.
Fixed fee
For clearly defined matters, a fixed fee can often be agreed in advance. This is useful where the scope can be described with sufficient precision and cost certainty is especially important.
Hourly rate
Complex, ongoing, or strategically evolving matters are often best billed on the basis of agreed hourly rates. This model is suitable where the time requirement cannot be forecast reliably at the outset.
Individual arrangements
Where the case justifies it, individual fee arrangements may be agreed. The decisive factors are the nature of the mandate, the level of predictability, and the commercial needs of the client.
What influences the fee structure?
The appropriate fee arrangement depends in particular on the legal and factual complexity of the case, the urgency of the matter, the amount of coordination required, the procedural setting, and whether the expected workload can be defined in advance.
In many mandates, an early strategic conversation already clarifies which model is best suited. That applies equally to advisory work, disputes, cease-and-desist matters, contract projects, intellectual property issues, and broader commercial mandates.
Planning security matters
A transparent fee discussion is not a side issue. It is part of good mandate management. Clear information about the structure of remuneration allows clients to make informed decisions and assess legal risks and costs together, not separately.
Initial discussion
We offer an initial discussion to understand the matter, outline the next steps, and explain the remuneration structure that fits the assignment. If you contact us, we can also discuss how our services may be tailored to your specific requirements.
Questions about scope and fees?
We are happy to discuss the appropriate fee model and the expected costs at the outset of the mandate.
